Update: DoIT has enabled Offline support for Google Drive. The
good news is that offline viewing and editing is now an option.
The bad news is that Google's merge algorithm can potentially
lose content. This is going to be true with any merge algorithm,
but Google doesn't provide any sort of conflict resolution
mechanism, not even looking in the history. If most people are
only adding comments, I think the risk is acceptably low, but
it's not zero, and there is a significant risk if two people are
doing heavy editing simultaneously and one of them is offline.
(When heavy editors are all online, there is no risk.)
