In setenvPreload, before any of the returning false, there is aÂstartup_printf call, which will print some error message when setting DYNINST_DEBUG_STARTUP=1. So, you can add startup_printf before that return, run it again, and see if the corresponding message showed up. For the example issue, you can try this PR (https://github.com/dyninst/dyninst/pull/457), which should fix the problem. Let me know what you find.
