Shuchi ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Matt Weinberg <smweinberg@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue, May 26, 2020 at 12:00 PM Subject: [Please Forward] Call for Student Participation in 2020 AGT Mentoring Workshop To: <sigecom-talk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, Michal Feldman <michal.feldman@xxxxxxxxxxxx>, Rafael M. Frongillo <raf@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Hi all, Please forward this email to all PhD, Master's, and Undergrad students at your institution who may be interested in pursuing a research career in Economics and Computation.Â(Faculty: you can stop reading here and just forward this email =). But please encourage your PhD students and postdocs to continue reading, even if they typically would not attend the mentoring workshop). Michal Feldman, Raf Frongillo, and I are organizing this year's AGT Mentoring Workshop, which will focus on mentoring- and networking-related topics. In particular, we expect it to be appropriate for an undergraduate student who is excited about the possibility of EC research, and has "mathematical maturity", but may not yet have EC-specific background or completed a research project. On the other extreme, senior PhD students and postdocs are asked to volunteer for a junior/senior student matching (and, they may also find some of the sessions valuable and are welcome to attend). The same form indicates interest in particular workshop activities, as well as the matching:Âhttps://forms.gle/md2Sg4i12ubRctAu9Â. Precise activities are still being finalized, but samples include: - A "How to build your public image" session, which will be a discussion on topics such as writing, speaking, reviewing, making a website, etc. - A small group discussion dissecting a short talk. - Small round-table "Ask Me Anything" discussion with faculty. - Purely social activity. Quick notes: - If you are unsure whether you are a "junior" or "senior" student for the sake of matching, you can pick whichever side you prefer, but there are suggested criteria in the form itself. - "Full participation" in the workshop might be ~6 hours, but it is acceptable to do a subset of activities. -ÂWe are attempting to accommodate all time zones.ÂSurely, some time zones will not have a 9ish-5ish schedule, but we hope that all time zones will have access to all activities during waking hours. - The core of the workshop will take place onÂMonday, June 15th.ÂDue to time zone and scheduling constraints, it may continue onto June 16th, or start on the evening of June 14th. - Please note that all participants must register for EC. Registration is free for SIGEcom members, and membership costs $5 for students.ÂEC registration information will be available soon. Thanks all! -Michal, Raf, Matt |
