Hi David,
I think your approach with the script should work fine, an external
script is lightweight and gives you lots of flexibility.
We used to have preemption enabled by default, but we got many
complaints from users running jobs that couldn't checkpoint and got
evicted. After we changed the default several years ago, nobody has
complained. So this seems like the best common case.
