Greetings CHTC Users,

We would like to invite interested researchers to apply to the 2016ÂOpenÂScienceÂGridÂUserÂSchool, to take place July 25-29Âat the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Each year the NSF-fundedÂOpenÂScienceÂGridÂ(OSG) selects a group of graduate students and other researchers across the country for this week-long dive into high-throughput computing (HTC) approaches, technologies, and skills. While CHTC users already have access to extensive HTC compute capacity and the OSG, the school will cover a range of HTCondor capabilities, workflow automation, and ways to make your computing work more "portable" to enhance your overall throughput. Instructors include HTCondor and OSG experts, including CHTC's Research Computing Facilitators.

Please consider forwarding the below announcement and/or posting the attached flyer for others you think might be interested. Completion of a (very) short application is due by April 15.

Also, please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions. You can reply to this email thread, or send questions to user-school@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Regards,
Your CHTC Team

ANNOUNCING THE OPEN SCIENCE GRID USER SCHOOL 2016!

If you could access hundreds or thousands of computers for yourÂscholarly work, what could you do?Â
How could it transform your work?
What discoveries might you make?

We are seeking applicants for the 2016 Open Science Grid (OSG) User School,Âwhich takes placeÂ25â29 JulyÂat the beautiful University of WisconsinÂin Madison. Participants will learn to use high throughput computing (HTC)Âto harness vast amounts of computing power for research, applicable toÂnearly any field of study (e.g., physics, chemistry, engineering, life sciences,Âearth sciences, agricultural and animal sciences, economics, socialÂsciences, medicine, and more).

Using lectures, discussions, roleplays, and lots of hands-on work withÂOSGÂexperts in HTC, participants will learn how HTC systems work, how to runÂand manage many jobs and huge datasets to implement a full scientificÂcomputing workflow, and where to turn for help and more info.

Successful applicants will receive financial supportÂto attend theÂOSGÂSchool, covering all basic travel, hotel, and food costs.

Ideal candidates are graduate students whose research involves or couldÂinvolve large-scale computing â work that cannot be done on one laptop orÂa handful of computers. We also accept post-doctoralÂstudents, faculty, staff, and advanced undergraduates, so make a goodÂcase for yourself!
