CALL FOR PAPERS
------------------------------
A special track on Parallel and Distributed Systems will be held in
SAC2004.
This track aims to be a forum for scientists, engineers and
practitioners
in academia, industry and research institutes to share technical ideas,
experiences and results and to present their latest findings in any
aspects
of Parallel and Distributed Computing. The Track will emphasize the
design,
architecture and software of parallel and distributed systems with their
scientific and engineering applications.
Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts that demonstrate
current
research in all areas of parallel and distributed systems. The track
solicits novel papers on a broad range of topics, including but not
limited to:
* Parallel and Distributed Architectures
* Parallel and Distributed Algorithms
* Optimizing Compilers
* Programming Languages and Tools for Parallel Computing Systems
* Load Sharing and Balancing
* Task Mapping and Job Scheduling
* Resource Allocation and Management
* Applications for Clusters and Grids - Grid Computing
* Architecture and Operating system support for Parallel Systems
* Supercomputing Applications
* Scalable Servers
* Internet and WWW-based Computing
* Network-based and Cluster Computing Network Server Architectures
* Reliability and Fault-Tolerance
* Performance Analysis
Original papers from the above-mentioned or other related areas will be
considered.
This includes three categories of submissions: 1) original and
unpublished research;
2) reports of innovative computing applications in the arts, sciences,
engineering,
business, government, education and industry; and 3) reports of
successful technology
transfer to new problem domains. Each submitted paper will be fully
refereed and
undergo a blind review process by at least three referees. Accepted
papers in all
categories will be published in the ACM SAC'04 proceedings.
Submit your paper electronically to
http://www.cslab.ece.ntua.gr/sac04-pds in PDF
or postscript (see the track web page for details). The author(s)
name(s) and
address(es) must not appear in any cover page or in the body of the
paper, and
self-reference should be in the third person. This is to facilitate
blind review.
Because the review process is blind, authors' names and affiliations
should appear
only on the electronic submission form. The final version (camera-ready)
of the
accepted papers should be submitted in PDF format so that they can be
included in
the proceedings as well as in the ACM Digital Library.

* 2004 ACM International Conference on Computing Frontiers
CF '04
2004 ACM International Conference on
Computing Frontiers
Ischia, Italy, 14-16 April 2004
Sponsored by ACM - SIGMICRO
The increasing needs of present and future computation-intensive
applications have stimulated research in new and innovative approaches to
the design and implementation of high-performance computing systems. This
challenging boundary between state of the art and innovation constitutes
the computing frontiers, which needs to push forward and provide the
computational support required for the advancement of all science domains
and applications. This conference will focus on a wide spectrum of
advanced technologies and radically new solutions and is designed to foster
communication between the various scientific areas and disciplines
involved. Authors are invited to submit papers on all areas of innovative
computing systems which extend the current frontiers of computer science
and engineering and that will provide advanced systems for current and
future applications.
Papers are sought on theory, methodologies, technologies, and
implementations concerned with innovations in computing paradigms,
computational models, architectural paradigms, computer architectures,
development environments, compilers, operating environments, etc. Main
topics include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Pervasive and ubiquitous computing | - Autonomous intelligent computing
- Embedded processing and networking | systems
- Wearable computing | - Nanotechnologies for high-performance
- Systems and networks on chip | computing
- Grid computing | - Molecular computing
- Parallel computing systems | - Computational neuroscience
- Clustered computing systems and | - Neuromorphic computing
server farms | - Evolutionary systems
- High-performance processors | - Computing systems for bioinformatics
- Application-specific computing | - Computing systems for knowledge
systems | processing
- High-performance parallel storage | - Computing systems for virtual
and I/O systems | environments
- High-performance networked storage | - Resilient and dependable computing
systems | systems
- Quantum computing |
PAPER SUBMISSION DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 15, 2003
Submission details and all information concerning the symposium can be
found at the conference web site (http://www.computingfrontiers.org).
Acceptance/rejection will be emailed by December 20, 2003. The final
manuscript will due January 24, 2004. Submission implies that at least one
author will register at the conference and present the paper.

* HotSpot thermal-modeling release (http://lava.cs.virginia.edu/HotSpot/)
With power density and hence cooling costs rising exponentially,
processor packaging can no longer be designed for the worst case, and
there is an urgent need for runtime techniques that can regulate
operating temperature when the package's capacity is exceeded.
Evaluating such techniques, however, requires a thermal model that is
practical for architectural studies at the processor- and
system-architecture granularities.
HotSpot is an accurate and fast thermal model suitable for use in
architectural studies. It automatically generates a dynamic compact
model based on an equivalent circuit of thermal resistances and
capacitances that correspond to blocks or structures of interest and to
essential aspects of the thermal package. The model has been validated
using finite-element simulation and is available for public use.
HotSpot has a simple set of interfaces and hence can be integrated with
most power-performance simulators like Wattch (but it has no specific
dependencies on SimpleScalar/Wattch). HotSpot is also general enough
that it should be easy to extend to a variety of systems and
configurations. HotSpot is supported via an email list that is
monitored by its developers.

publications, see http://lava.cs.virginia.edu/HotSpot/
