The Star*Core Joint Design Center is a strategic alliance between Lucent
Technologies and Motorola formed in September of 1998 to research, develop,
and
deliver core hardware and software technologies to enable the next
generation
of DSP applications.  The combined DSP market share of this powerful
alliance
is comparable to any other major DSP vendor.  By pooling their respective
resources and talents, Motorola and Lucent Technologies will provide
leadership
in DSP technology for high quality System on Chip (SOC) solutions for
advanced
communications, consumer electronics, and the transportation industry.

Becoming a member of the Star*Core team is a unique opportunity to join an
energetic team defining the DSP architecture and software tools of tomorrow.
The design center is located in Atlanta to create a startup atmosphere with
excitement, casual dress, and perks.

There are presently intern, junior, and senior openings in both the
production
and advanced development tools teams.  The tools teams are tasked with
creating
production quality state of the art compilers, assemblers, linkers, and
simulators.  Additional openings in testing and debugging are available with
opportunities to move onto one of the development teams.

The ideal candidate has a M.S. or Ph.D. in a closely related area of
Computer
Science as well as some professional experience.  Compiler experience is
sought
in loop transformations, scalar optimizations, intermediate representations,
interprocedural optimization, and analysis.  Simulator experience is sought
in
embedded programming, microcontroller development and debugging, software
performance profiling and analysis, and CPU emulators.
