Subject: Re: [HTCondor-users] Support for LTS releases

Hello Antonio,

My apologies for the confusion. 24.12.13 and later are bug fix only releases. Both 24.0.x and 24.12.x go end-of-life in 2026.

Other than features and platforms dropped for version 25, HTCondor 25.0.x and 24.12.x are the same.

In version 25, we dropped support for Debian 11 and version 1 of the Python bindings. Unless you are using those platforms/features, HTCondor 25.0.x is equivalent to HTCondor 24.12.x.

The support life cycle is documented here:

https://htcondor.readthedocs.io/en/latest/version-history/introduction-version-history.html#support-life-cycle

As you see, we target August. However, we have missed our target for the last two major releases. The August date is the earliest that we stop support. HTCondor 24 will no longer be supported/updated whenever HTCondor 26 is released.

I hope this clears things up.

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been explained previously or if it is evident (except for me). HTCondor Release Plans indicates that LTS releases are supported for 24 months. Thus, 24.0 will be supported until Autum 2026 and 25.0 will be supported until Autum 2027. That seems clear.

However, 24.x started as the same time as 24.0 but âtransitioned from feature to LTS with the release of 24.12.13â.  HTCondor 24.12.13 was releases on October 9, 2025. Does that mean that 24.12 will also be supported until Autum 2027?

Thanks.

Antonio
