Re: [HTCondor-users] Sudden death of a Rooster

Hello Steffen,

Replacing the just the Rooster would be very difficult. We don't guarantee any ABI compatibility between shared libraries between condor versions. So, if you have a 25.x.y Rooster, you would need a wrapper to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to pick up the corresponding libraries. Additionally, the defect is actually in the ClassAd library.

If you a stuck with condor 24.6.1, you may be better off building a patched 24.6.1.

Details about the defect are in the ticket: https://opensciencegrid.atlassian.net/browse/HTCONDOR-3436

Good morning,

yesterday, in the middle of a very active life, our Rooster suddenly died:

I am truly sorry to hear of the death of your rooster. If it is any comfort
to you, the song of his last stack trace is enough for us to prevent this
from happening in a future version of HTCondor.
Hi Greg,

indeed it's somewhat comforting to know that replacing that rooster with a more
recent, and hopefully invincible, model will get us rid of the problem at some
later point in time. Since we'll be bound to this particular verstion for a while
longer:
Would "importing" a 25.x.y rooster be possible at all, while keeping the rest of
the hen house at 24.6.1, or would that confuse the master?

Thanks,
  Steffen

PS. I'm naturally curious enough to want to learn what went wrong with the old guy...
