Re: [HTCondor-users] permission question about /var/lib/condor/spool/local_univ_execute and /var/lib/condor/execute

Hmm. When I first installed the RPM and started condor the permissions on /var/lib/condor/spool/local_univ_execute were reasonable but after restarting it I see:

: || lvd@gertrude ~ [1000] ; ls -ld /var/lib/condor/spool/local_univ_execute /var/lib/condor/execute
drwxrwxrwt. 2 condor condor 6 Mar 20 14:36 /var/lib/condor/execute
drwxrwxrwt. 2 condor condor 6 Apr 22 13:57 /var/lib/condor/spool/local_univ_execute

so it looks like the default for both is 1777. Could that be changed?

I'll force them to 0755 in my config management system for now.

Thanks Jamie. I'll change those on all my existing hosts.

I just installed condor-all (24.6.1) on a newly imaged AlamLinux 9 host and /var/lib/condor/execute was created 1777. Perhaps that could be adjusted in the next RPM build?

Those permissions do not need to be 1777. Older versions of HTCondor (before 9.011) assigned those permissions so that an execute directory on an NFS volume with root-squash would work. Current versions of HTCondor expect the permissions to be 0755, but wonât object if theyâre laxer. The directories do need to be owned by the condor user.
