It does sound like you have a version of HTCondor that is built for a different operating system. I would uninstall your current HTCondor and install the latest build that is still available in our repositories. For CentOS 5.5, you can get HTCondor 8.2.10 from the "previous" repository: https://research.cs.wisc.edu/htcondor/yum/repo.d/htcondor-previous-rhel5.repo This release (8.2.10) of HTCondor is totally unsupported at this time.
