I suggest using your mail system as-is. Create aliases or delivery rules
(procmail for example) for handling HTCondor messages. Have these
aliases or rules forward mail to the appropriate SMTP-to-whatever
gateways you desire. Pagers and SMS are commonly implemented.
I prefer this method. It puts message routing in the "hands" of tools
that are made specifically for message routing. This makes for easier
maintenance: it centralizes routing policies and you don't have to
maintain and distribute custom scripts across a pool. It simplifies the
addition of new gateways: just create appropriate aliases or rules on
the mail server.
