Hi, how about Condor-G glide in or flocking? Is that seems a part of resource discovery? cheers -----Original Message----- From: condor-users-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxx on behalf of Steven Timm Sent: Tue 01/01/2008 19:00 To: Condor-Users Mail List Subject: Re: [Condor-users] Resource Discovery Algorithm? Anju--the whole idea of Resource Discovery is sort of a new one in the Grid and Condor world and the term is still not well defined. It would help if we knew what it was you were trying to do. The Open Science Grid, which is the main US Grid infrastructure, does use Condor as a critical part of their Resource Selection Service. Each of the 70-some sites on the Open Science Grid has a daemon running called CEMon which takes the state of the cluster and converts it into a condor classad. There is then a central collector/negotiator at which Open Science Grid users can point their condor schedd and pick the site that meets their requirements. This is the third or fourth system like this which uses Condor classads to send whole-cluster information. The Canadian GridX1 and Fermilab's FermiGrid and SAMGrid are doing very similar things. There is another idea called resource discovery in some other grids which is more limited in scope, which is only meant to let people know where the resources are and not necessarily how many slots they have or of what type they are, or even if they are up. This is the approach used by the gLite software of EGEE the European grid, and discussions have been under way in the Open Grid Forum for almost a year now to extend that approach to all grids. In the development branch of Condor there has been the idea of "schedd-on-the-side" which can take a Vanilla universe job and detect and find other condor pools where it could run. I have not tried this personally but those at Wisconsin and Lehigh (COR@L lab) who have have reported good success. Hope this helps. Google any of the terms I put in the above statement and you can find a lot more. Steve Timm ------------------------------------------------------------------ Steven C.
