Hi Selcuk,

There is no one set of parameters that is considered correct for a CMP system. It all depends on what you wish to model. I would suggest first sketching your target CMP. How many cache banks? Where are they located with respect to the cores? Then pay close attention to how the GEMS interconnect attaches cache controllers to each other and to memory. Once you have a configuration, use the Ruby tester with a small, hand-generated trace file to verify that latencies appear correct when the tester plays back the trace one request at a time. As far as the network structure of the GEMS simple interconnection network, what is implemented isn't meant to match what would actually be implemented. It is a simple model that assigns latency and bandwidth parameters to each link. A "Throttle" is something used by the simulator to model bandwidth. It is not something that would actually exist.
Regards,
Mike

Hi everybody,

I'm a graduate student and have been studing gems since this summer and have made great progress in understanding opal and ruby. I think, not only the simulator itself but also this mailing-list are impressive works.

I have some problems that needed to be overcome to continue

firstly, we are not sure if our configuration parameters are correct for a CMP system using MSI_MOSI_directory protocol, at this point it would be great if anyone can share their configuration files and some test results for a CMP system. (this will help to clear up my mind, know that I'm on the right path or not)

And i want to know if there are some research papers or documantion which can be helpfull to figure out the network structure used in Ruby (switches, throttles....)

Thank you
Selcuk
