Subject: Surplus Open Science Grid hours available for single-core jobs!
Greetings CHTC Users on our HTC submit servers,

We've become aware that there is a surplus of available capacity in the Open Science Grid (OSG), available for use by researchers at UW-Madison. If you are submitting batches of computing jobs with each job generally completing or checkpointing in under ~10 hours on a single core and with no dependencies on the Gluster file share, then they're likely a good fit for using the broader campus grid of HTCondor pools and the OSG. (Jobs using SQUID are still good candidates for OSG!)

Researchers who use the campus grid and OSG readily achieve 10-fold higher throughput (up to thousands of cores in use by a single user).

If you're interested in getting more throughput for your jobs, see our guide on Scaling Beyond Local CHTC CapacityÂand/or get in touch via email or office hours. We're happy to help you with a strategy for testing your jobs and optimizing them to run successfully on the Open Science Grid.

Cheers,
Your CHTC Research Computing Facilitators
