Subject: [Chtc-users] Storage Management Policy
Greetings CHTC Users,

In order to better manage storage in the CHTC we will be implementing two policies that we've been discussing for some time. These changes will help ensure that everyone has the resources needed for their work and will help us maximize the resources we provide at reasonable operating costs.

1. Disk Quotas of 20G on data in /home. You will be limited to 20G in your home directory. We know some of you will need more, so just let us know and we'll adjust your quota according to the needs of your research.

2. Auto removal of files older than 60 days in /home. This is consistent with our message that CHTC storage is 1) for transient data and 2) not backed up. We will not remove 'dot' files so your configuration files like .bashrc do not have to be updated every 60 days.

We will be performing storage maintenance next week (Dec. 5-9) to prepare for an updated submit infrastructure and will implement these policies at that time.

If you could please take a moment early next week to clean up any unneeded files, it will help reduce the time for this maintenance.

Another email will be sent before maintenance begins. The 60 day timer for file removal will also begin at that time, so you don't need to worry that unchanged files will be automatically removed until the week of February 6, 2012.

Regards, The CHTC Team
