Articles like the one which you link, which tout the superiority
of the (homogeneous) Northern European countries over other
countries that are less homogeneous, proliferate the media,
especially in the US. Many people in CS are from backgrounds that
aren't welcome (or at least treated equally) in such countries.
So it may have been hard for someone to hear about their
superiority in a CS forum.
I am guessing you are referring to the remark about
COVID. In no way I meant to imply that Germans are superior
to Americans, Indians, or any other nationality. I am sorry
if that was the perception I gave and you found that
offensive. Lesson learned, and I can only apologize. For
context, I made that remark having had just read this
article:

Hi Alexandra,
Thanks for sharing the link. I listened to your
non-scientific remarks. There is one part which I found
extremely offensive: the implication that Germans are
superior to Americans, Brazilians, British, Indians. Many
of us have heard that numerous times before in many
different ways.
Yesterday I gave a
talk at the Women in Logic workshop.
It was a scientific talk with remarks
at the end on being a woman in logic.
The youtube stream was reported and
taken down -- yesterday we were not
sure when/why, but here's the report
from the organisers:
- What happened is that someone
"flagged" the WiL video streaming
towards the end of Alexandra's talk
(after the scientific part was
concluded).
- As soon as someone flags a video
streaming, Youtube immediately
removes everything (and I mean
_everything_, streaming, video file,
identifications) and sends a warning
to the whole FSCD-IJCAR Channel.
This process is particularly
automatic as human intervention is
minimized during the pandemic.
- We immediately made an Appeal to
Youtube, but while the removal of
the content is automatized, the
Appeal needs to be approved by
humans.
- Today, we received the "Decision
on your Video Appeal": "After
further review, we have reinstated
your video.".
Summing up, we won the Appeal,
but it is not very useful.
My personal
opinion: someone raised a
community complaint and flagged
the video as a hostile act towards
the WiL workshop.
This is a further proof that you
need to continue doing what you're
doing!
I am really sad to see that some
troll hates women so much he was
monitoring the stream and waited for
my "complaints" to start to take
down the stream.
I feel very
welcome at MadPL and I see a lot of
you as Allies to women and
other minorities in the field.
Please continue being allies because
as this shows the field has a long
way to go to be really inclusive.
