I take a different approach, though. I use cfengine
(http://www.iu.hioslo.no/cfengine) which can also do encrypted copy,
it can understand tcpwrappers to add a little more control, and you
can choose to copy files on size, modification dates or by checksum.
Of course, cfengine does a great deal more than that, too,
which is why we use it: process checking and quenching, symlink tree
creation, log rotation, etc.
