Addendum:

The submit host config only differs in

CENTRAL_MANAGER (we use a dedicated one for each pool)
NETWORK_INTERFACE
SUBMIT_REQUIREMENTS (we enforce the JobUniverse on submission)
FLOCK_TO (main pool can overflow to not so much used DedicatedScheduler 
pool)

For thee execution points the diffs are

CENTRAL_MANAGER (see above)
NETWORK_INTERFACE
CLAIM_WORKLIFE
MaxJobRetirementTime

and obviously for the dedicated scheduler node

START = True && (JobUniverse =?= 11)
DedicatedScheduler = "DedicatedScheduler@SUBMITHOST"
STARTD_ATTRS = DedicatedScheduler

Thus, all in all, not really anything pointing me to whatever is 
changing the PATH.
