Bob,

There were some changes in 7.7 that changed how the _CONDOR_SLOT environment variable was reported (see https://htcondor-wiki.cs.wisc.edu/index.cgi/tktview?tn=3752). If I had to guess, I'd say this is related. I would expect SLOT1_USER to still work, but what happens if you try setting SLOT_USER instead?
