If you're interested in monitoring and already use Nagios, I wrote a
few checks that we've been using at Purdue:

  http://web.rcac.purdue.edu/boilergrid/nagios/

They're probably not the best code ever written, but they mostly do
the job for us.  I make no promises that they'll be suitable for
anyone else.
