Rob, The problem is that Condor attempts to contact the machine before constructing the constraint and when that fails, it doesn't even run the constraint. Does "ping pm37" work from the machine you're running condor_status on, or do you need to add a hostname? If you need to add a hostname, the condor_status command line will need that hostname as well. Unfortunately, it might not work then because although the fully qualified hostname will resolve properly, it won't match the Name attribute, which contains just "pm37". (If the Machine attribute contains the fully qualified hostname rather than just "pm37" it should still work, because the constraint Condor uses checks both the Name and Machine attribute.)
