if so

    try

    condor_config_val CONDOR_HOST

If not,

    then it shouldn't be running a condor_collector

    check the DAEMON_LIST

small help on the other question like....how do i know if there is any NAT or firewall involved......i can ping all the machines in my pool from any m/c......

What happens if you do:

       condor_status -any

Or:

       condor_status -direct localhost

Do either of those produce any results?
