I've noticed that on my PPC Mac that occasionally when I run java I  
get this error output, and sometimes I don't. I wonder if it might be  
a factor.

$ java
Error occurred during initialization of VM
java.lang.Error: Properties init: Could not determine current working  
directory.
Trace/BPT trap
$ echo $?
133

Also, can you run the benchmark yourself from a command line. Go into  
your installation's lib directory and try:

java -cp scimark2lib.jar:. CondorJavaInfo new 2
