I take care of a cluster dedicated to our research group and we have a
need to place a hard limit on the number of jobs any one user can have
running at any given time. The calculations we do, unfortunately, do
not checkpoint well so preemption is not a good option for us to achieve
fair use by all users. (The problem is that many of our jobs run for
days at a time, so the solution for people with idle jobs is not to just
wait patiently for the other person's jobs to finish.)
I can't seem to find any macros for the configuration file that would
allow a hard limit setting. I hope that I'm just missing it.
Can someone point me in the right direction or offer a work-around? Is
there a way to have the remote nodes only accept a job if the user's
priority level is below a set threshold?
Thanks in advance,
HPH
