Is the following directory writeable to everyone/world/other:
 /storage/remote/data1/sam/jim

Do any files already in exist in above directory with ownership of someone else.

Where does you program create the file called output_kludge?
Maybe it is created in a subdir, and then condor
can't see it to return it.

you have checked all the above.
