[Gems-users] about the trace file

Dear all: 
   Right now, i'm running Splash 2 on Simics with Ruby. I have set tracer-output-file a.txt to get a trace file.
   But when i try to use Gedit to read the trace file, it contains some very strange characters. 
   Do you guys have a idea of what is happening?
   Is the generated trace file a txt file or something else? How can i read it?
