Subject: [Gems-users] Question on OPAL_RUBY_MULTIPLIER in GEMS-2.1
Hi all

There are a number of posts on the user forum explaining the user of the SIMICS_RUBY_MULTIPLIER and OPAL_RUBY_MULTIPLIER in rubyconfig.defaults. From the posts it looks like the default settings of both were to 2 in GEMS-1.4 in order to simulate the fact that the processor typically runs at a faster clock than the memory subsystem. However, I find in GEMS-2.1 that OPAL_RUBY_MULTIPLER is set to 1 by default. Does this mean that by default, the various latencies ascribed to the L2 cache etc. have been adjusted in the newer versions to account for the fact that both the processor and memory subsystem now seem to operate on the same base frequency? For example, I find that the variable MEMORY_RESPONSE_LATENCY_MINUS_2 is set to 158 in GEMS-2.1 but is set to 268 in GEMS-1.4. My question is whether all the other L2 latencies have also been accordingly adjusted?

If my understanding is correct, both the Ruby and Opal should now show an equivalent number of cycles at the end of any benchmark run?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Abhishek
