GEMS was designed specifically for multiprocessor simulation, and
therefore has a fairly accurate memory model. The Ruby portion of
GEMS, combined with SLICC, models the entire cache hierarchy up to and
including the memory controllers. If all you want to model is a
uniprocessor, however, the big win you will get from GEMS vs.
simplescalar is a full system simulation (including I/O, syscalls,
etc).
