The Node numbers refer to all the components created in the network, ,for example, caches, directories, switches, etc. Each of them is assigned a unique number. Machines refer to objects that are part of the network; L1cache is a machine type, L2 cache is a machine type, etc. These are all defined in the network files in network/simple folder.
