Hi,
That was some unfortunate wording on my part. Let me clarify.

I should have said:
"It is essential to use a SPARC target with Opal, and advisable to use a SPARC target with Ruby. The exception is using Ruby with the x86 patch."

Dan

  Hello,

It is essential that you use the "sarek" target when using GEMS, which
is a serengeti (Sun/SPARC) machine. Ruby (the memory hierarchy
simulator) expects to interface with the sarek configuration.

Sorry to meddle in the discussion here but just a quick question:
Can we only use sarek target with GEMS? Is sunfire not compatible
(As far as I know it is also a Sun/SPARC machine (but it simulates
UltraSPARC II instead of UltraSPARC III or IV) ?
I was using sunfire target and so far everything seems to work fine.
However, I have not used opal yet. Would it be a problem if I try to
   use opal with sunfire target?

      Thanks,

             Derin Harmanci.
