Hi everyone,
Weâre excited to invite you to an upcoming
hands-on tutorial - Installing Software (Containers
+ Conda) on CHTC
as part of the
Bioinformatics Cafà series hosted by the Center for High Throughput Computing (CHTC):
ð
Hands-On Tutorial
- Installing Software (using Containers + Conda) on
CHTC
ð Wednesday, March 11, 2026
ð 2:30 â 4:30 PM CT
ð Morgridge Hall, Room 3610 â 1205 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53715 (Map Attached)
This session is focused on one of the most common pain points in computational biology: reproducible, portable software environments. Weâll cover practical strategies for installing bioinformatics tools using Conda/containers and when containers (Apptainer/Singularity)
are the better choice for running workflows on shared computing resources like CHTC and the OSPool.
The event will include:
-
A focused tutorial on using Containers + Conda on CHTC resources (2:30 â 3:30 PM)
-
An open co-working session with facilitators (3:30 â 4:30 PM) to help you get hands-on experience and work on your own projects alongside peers or chat more about your research computing needs.
Who should attend:
-
Researchers working with Conda environments
-
Researchers interested in learning how to install their software on CHTC
-
Anyone looking to scale beyond single-machine or local server runs
-
Those interested in reproducible, high-throughput bioinformatics workflows
-
Researchers outside of the life sciences are also encouraged needing help with software installs.
No prior experience with CHTC is required, though familiarity with Linux command line will be helpful. You can follow along or just watch, if you'd prefer.
Bioinformatics CafÃ:
This event is open to any UWâMadison researchers and is hosted in-conjunction with our monthly
Bioinformatics Cafà series â a relaxed, community-focused space combining mini-tutorials with dedicated co-working time.
Hope to see you there!
Your CHTC team
