Staff outages, HPC & Important Changes to Email Notifications

Hello CHTC users, 

 

Upcoming Staff Outages/Changes in Office Hours

The CHTC is hosting the OSG User School next week and has a variety of upcoming staff outages. As a result:

• Office hours on August 8 and 15 are canceled. Office hours will resume August 22. 
• Replies to support emails will be delayed from August 5-19. 

 

HPC Update

The old HPC cluster, accessed by hpclogin3.chtc.wisc.edu, is being officially retired this week. General users will notice that jobs will not start and soon they will not be able to log into this system. Moving forward, users should log in to spark-login.chtc.wisc.edu to use the HPC cluster running the new operating system. More information on this transition to the new cluster is available here: https://chtc.cs.wisc.edu/uw-research-computing/hpc-el8-to-el9. Data in /home, /scratch, and /software is accessible from the new system.

 

Important Update to Email Notifications 

DoIT, the University’s IT department, is blocking all incoming unauthenticated emails starting August 5. This will impact all students, staff, and faculty regardless of whether they are using CHTC resources or not. As a result, emails coming from unauthenticated sources will be sent to spam. Due to these changes, CHTC is disabling the email functionality of HTC and HPC jobs for notifying users about job progress. We are exploring options for returning a similar functionality in the future.
