[HTCondor-users] NUM_SLOTS to higher value without affecting running jobs

Is there a way to set NUM_SLOTS of an execute node to a *higher value* 
without affecting currently running jobs?

I tried changing the value in condor_config.local and restarting condor, 
but this seems to kill currently running jobs.
